DNA Alignment Help | Editing | Keyboard functions


The keyboard functions are designed to be compatible with most Windows software.

Navigation within the alignment table:

[up] - up one cell
[down] - down one cell
[left] - left one cell
[right] - right one cell

[Page up] - up by as many rows as are displayed in the alignment table
[Page down] - down by as many rows as are displayed in the alignment table
[ctrl + left] - left by as many columns as are displayed in the alignment table
[ctrl + right] - right by as many columns as are displayed in the alignment table

[Start of line] - navigate to the first column in the alignment table
[End of line] - navigate to the last column in the alignment table

Editing within the alignment table:

[insert] - insert a "-" into the sequence at the cursor, and move the neighbouring cells
[delete] - delete the nucleotide from the sequence at the cursor, and move the neighbouring cells
[shift + left/down] - select cells in multiple columns and/or lines in the alignment table
[ctrl + c] - copy selected cells from the alignment table (but not into the Windows clipboard!)
[ctrl + v] - paste the selected cells into the alignment table (but not from the Windows clipboard!)

Characters can be typed on the keyboard, to replace the contents of a cell in the alignment table (e.g. [A] or [a"] to write an "A" into the table at the cursor position).
