DNA Alignment Help | Mismatch and collapsed output for publication tables
How to submit tables of aligned data to journals:
DNA Alignment can save the aligned data in two text formats, which can be sent to journals "as is".
The journal typesetters can import these files into their typesetting software and edit them.
The journals then send the authors pdf-proofs.
The "mismatch format" text file is the format of choice, if each sequence should be listed individually by name. This is required if identical sequences should be shown to have distinct characteristics, e.g. the same sequence occurs in several completely different geographic regions.
The "collapsed format" text file should be chosen if only the haplotypes are of interest, i.e. if identical sequences may be listed as one haplotype. When such "collapsing" occurs, the number of sequences in a haplotype will be listed.
How to create a formatted table as shown on the DNA Alignment homepage:
The
"journal style" table on the DNA Alignment homepage was created in MS Excel along the following guidelines:
-
Start Excel (the Excel commands below may vary depending on version and language)
-
open file (*.txt) --> this opens the preview window
-
fixed column width, continue >
-
click behind each column to insert a column break, continue >, finish
-
CTRL A (to select all), Main menu / Format / columns / optimal column width
-
CTRL A (to select all), align centered
-
select rows 1-6 and use the "frame" button to create the thin overline and the fat underline
-
select the last row and use the "frame" button to create the thin underline
-
use the "print layout" icon to preview and fit onto page.
-
The fluxus-engineering.com website picture is a screen snap from Excel's preview, pasted into Windows' Paint and saved as jpg. For example with Adobe Acrobat's PDFWriter, this table can also be "printed" as a pdf file.
